May I Walk With You?

So, here is some of the photos from the first roll of film i shot on my minolta al-f. I think i set the film wrong, so most of the photos have a black bar on the side. I have about 6 more rolls to develop, but im trying to not spend money so i probably wont develop any more until later this month since im working alot over the holidays.

Moogfest

I didn't mean for my blog to turn into a music blog.... but i have more photos from my first music festival! I went to Moogfest in Asheville, North Carolina this past week and I had the most amazing time. I saw artists ranging from Crystal Castles to Amon Tobin to John Maus to St. Vincent. I literally can't put into words how much of a high i am still getting from Moogfest. I Keep checking the tumblr tags and watching youtube videos to relive every experience. I took a fajillion photos as well. So i guess I'll post some photos and then talk about my weekend.

Well, I couldn't bring my camera into half the venues for dumb reasons, so i'm waiting for a few disposable cameras to be developed still. So we left thursday and drove to Atlanta and stayed the night at Shane's uncles house. We had some awesome local beer and pizza and watched Paranormal Activity 2, which was really dumb haha. The next morning we woke up and went to downtown Atlanta and walked around a bit and then headed off to Asheville. I think I fell in love with Asheville immediately, we were stuck in traffic outside of the town, but it was so lovely in the mountains that I didn't even care. Once we got there, we checked into out hotel and then went off to get out wristbands. It rained the first night and it was about 35F and although downtown Asheville is small, walking between venues was freezing and too long.

The first show we caught was the end to Atlas Sound and then we went to the Asheville Civic Center to catch Holy Fuck. We stayed for all of them and then saw a portion of Moby before we went to get good spots to see Flying Lotus. Can I just say Flying Lotus was the best part of my night. The crowd was insane and everyone danced.

Saturday we slept in a bit and then went to get breakfast downtown, but everything had an hour wait so we ended up going to Cracker Barrel. We headed to the Animoog Playground to see Dan Deacon. We arrived in the middle of his set and he was having the crowd for a giant circle to have a dance off! After him, Crystal Castles was playing so i basically charged the crowd to get right up front. The minute Alice Glass came on stage the crowd went nuts. i didn't even have to stand because everyone was pushing so much. I think I can say having Alice Glass spit alcohol on me was pretty amazing. I have no words for finally getting to see Crystal Castles live. I would spend all the money in the world to see them again. after Crystal Castles, The Flaming Lips played. I was trying to recover from the excessive bonding I had with the CC crowd, so i didn't go all the way in the crowd for Flaming Lips. I enjoyed their show so so so so so so so much. there was confetti everywhere and giant balloons. After two hours with the Flaming Lips we went back to the Civic Center to see Amon Tobin, who had the coolest stage set up i have ever seen. It was this geometrical stacked cube set up and he was inside of one of the cubes. I then went to see St. Vincent half way through their set and then stayed to see all of Battles. I think after that night I was the most exhausted I have ever been.

Sunday I woke up feeling on despite the fact we didn't got to bed til almost 5 am. we had a nice lunch and then explored downtown Asheville during the day. We stopped at the coffee place called the Chocolate Lounge and i had the best french press with steamed milk i have ever had. We saw John Maus first that day and he was literally insane. He was punching himself in the head and hitting himself and screaming like a maniac and it was so crazy. Im so glad i got to talk to john maus too he was very nice and we told him to come to tallahassee sometime! then Baths played!!!!!!!!! I was right up front and sang to every song and danced like i had no control of my body. I seriously love Baths' music so so much. then we went and got dinner and headed to the last show. we got to the Orange Peel right before Emancipator ended, enough time to charge to the fron to be in the very front center for Gold Panda. When Marriage came on i was so happy. Basically it was the best way to end the most perfect weekend.

Winter Coat

At my university we have this thing called Market Wednesdays, and all these shops bring out things to sell and there is music and sometimes special events. There is this one vintage stand I look through occasionally and today i happened to be just passing because I was going to meet a friend, when this coat caught my eye. I looked over and picked it up and it is a wool like texture, and nice and think for winter. I tried it on and it fit perfectly and I asked the owner how much, because I knew it was going to be something I couldn't spend money on. I was expecting 60 or so but it was 40. I told him I might come back for it later. After thinking about it for a while because although I had the money for it, I really didn't want to spend it since I'm headed to North Carolina in a few days. But I needed another coat and I'd be going to Paris and this would last me a long time. And it fits perfectly. This coat was basically calling my name, so i got it. It is so nice and i can't wait for it to get colder so I can wear it!

In the past...

I am going through old photos and I found these and thought I would share. It's always a weird feeling to go through old photos, and not remember them being taken. Almost like it's a whole life you didn't know you had. Anyways the first one is of my sister and I when I was about 3 and she was just about a year old I think. Look at those matching sweaters; we were so damn cute. The second is when I went to my first football game. I was probably 6 or 7 and my sister i think was 4. I remember that outfit I was wearing because my mom started letting me choose my own clothes and I loved that shirt. The other two kids are the kids of the guy my mom was dating at the time. I wonder where they are now... And the last photo is my mom when she was pregnant with me and traveling with my dad in Germany. I think this is one of my favorite photos of my mother.

Too Long

It has been too long since I have posted anything. I have been crazy busy with school and haven't been taking too many photos lately. I just uploaded a few photos to my flickr and I am getting a bunch of film developed on my next paycheck. Can't wait to see how they turn out!

Most Wanted

Taking a break from reading La Chanson de Roland and Lanval for my French Literature class. I'm only taking four classes this semester, but it feels like French lit will take most of my time and energy. I decided to start keeping a journal with me at all times, so I bought two small moleskines to keep in my purse or backpack. I sometimes randomly remember a memory or have a quick thought about something really insightful, and I never right it down so I lose it all. That will change.

Persona Board

So I was on tumblr the other night, and one of the people I follow/follows me made a Persona Board image, and I've always seen these on other blogs and they looks so amazing and I've always wanted to do one. So I was bored that same night, grabbed a few items from around my room and got this.

The Bell Jar by Sylvia Plath. This is one of my favorite books as well as one of the few books that makes me feel absolutely crazy when I read it.

The French dictionary was the first one I ever owned. It's really outdated and not useful most of the time, but I’ve had it for almost 9 years and my uncle Danny gave it to me when he found out I was taking french.

The scissors and thread. I have been sewing since I was 13, so I literally have a million spools of thread all over my room always and a box full of scissors.

Minolta AL-F rangefinder. I’ve been into photography for a few years now, using digital, and I just recently started trying to use film. Film is fairly new to me but I am really enjoying it so far. I'm hoping it brings a nice change in my life somehow.

Postcard and envelope in the top right corner. Basically everyone I know knows how much I love french, so I always get weird little things from people, like that vintage postcard which is the coolest thing ever, and the envelope behind it was given to me by my friend Jad. It says Par Avion on it :3

Field Guide To Seashore Creatures. Ever since I started taking oceanography classes in high school, I have been very interested in marine biology and studying things about the ocean. I did a really nerdy National Ocean Sciences Bowl team in high school and was the captain my senior year. We almost got third place. It was really sad that we didn’t place. Anyways, my AP Environmental Science teacher was in charge of the team and I spent almost every day after school in her class room studying and helping her with projects. She got me that book for a graduation gift.

The necklace. I rarely wear jewelry besides earrings, but I love this necklace. My mom rented two rooms from a lady that worked with her when she divorced my dad. We lived there for ten years and Paula basically was like my grandma. She never had kids and she spoiled me and my sister sometimes. She went to Seattle one year to see her brother and she brought me back that necklace.

The shells. This past summer, I rode my bike to the beach to watch the sunrise  too many times to count. There's something about the sunrises that makes starting the day enjoyable. I walk from one pier to the other searching the sand for signs of color and sometimes I find pretty little shells. I used to know the names of all those shells, but I've totally forgotten. Good thing I've got that field guide haha!

Lastly, the notebook and pens. I sort of started a journal but it's not like a thing I keep up with every day. I will randomly jot down thoughts or draw something, and sometimes I forget I have it for months at a time, but whenever I think of something I want to remember, I write it down. And those are the only pens I ever write with. I'm super picky about writing with anything else, especially pencils. I hate pencils.
